Finally the rains have arrived! My thirsty garden is loving all the water. I lost a couple of sunflowers and the sugar snap peas suffered a bit (their stalks are so delicate). But for the most part the garden is loving it, and I am loving watching all that rain coming down. Just love this kind of weather.

Today was so much fun, playing with the rocks. Digging them out and placing one on top of another to make little stone walls surrounding the garden beds. And then to look back and behold the vision as if some great piece of art. Whatever this force that moves me is.... it finds great pleasure in creating!

Ambitious thoughts

Well, this has been some blog.... Hahaha. Maybe I'll become more inspired to write.
Dec. is almost here and the garden is thriving. SO many wonderful greens, brocolli, beets, figs, guavas, raspberrries...
The central coast is an amazing place for gardening. Gratitude comes naturally when witness to the miracle of a garden. I mean really... this little speck of a seed that I buried in the dirt so many weeks before manifests into a bush of peppers or a cluster of tomatoes, a leafy green lettuce ... what an everyday miracle!

Today is going to be really hot- I'm talking 85 degrees at the beaches! So after a little early morning weeding and watering its off to the beach. Before we go we'll have our favorite breakfast- cottage cheese pancakes. They are the best, melt in your mouth high protein pancakes. Even the kids love them, although you might want to change the name until they've tried em. Here's the recipe;
Cottage Cheese Pancakes

1 cup cottage cheese
1 cup milk
2 Tbs melted butter

FOLD EGG WHITES INTO MIXTURE
COOK ON NON STICK GRILL
Serve with butter, maple syrup ( optional whipped cream)

Welcome to my blog about suburban homesteading and my journey towards self sufficiency and freedom. More and more my home in the suburbs is looking and feeling more like the farm in the country that I always wanted!
Spring is here and the garden is coming to life. Today bush beans that I had started in peat pots were put in the ground. I pulled most of the aruglua that was going to seed, leaving a small plant to collect seeds from.
Here's a gardening tip that I was excited to discover. Starbucks gives out bags of used coffee grinds that are great for composting and you can use them to sprinkle around plants to keep snails and slugs off. A nice side effect is that the garden has a wonderful aroma of coffee!
